Christmas Tree Lantern Assembly
Safety Warning
Always use battery-powered tea lights or fairy lights. Do not use open flames as they pose a significant fire risk.
Supplies
12x12 inch cardstock*
Vellum
Glue or double-sided tape
Bone folder or other scoring tool (optional)
*The large tree requires 12x12 inch cardstock. The vellum pieces for all trees, medium and small trees can all be cut on 8.5x11 inch. If you plan to cut the large tree, make sure your machine can cut at least 12x12 inch material. The large tree cannot be cut with a Silhouette Portrait, Cricut Joy, or Cricut Joy Extra.
Assembly Steps
Fold and score all the score lines on the tree. Use a bone folder or edge of a pencil to make flatten down the crease and make the score crisp.
Glue or use double-sided tape to attach the five vellum pieces on the inside of the tree. Make sure that you don’t cover any of the creases. (See the image to the right.)
’Why is the vellum in FIVE pieces instead of just one?’ you may be wondering. The reason I design the lanterns this way is so that they fold nicer and the vellum stays flush to the inside of the lantern. The end result is much nicer and cleaner looking.Fold the ends together with the vellum on the inside. Glue or tape the flap under the opposite edge of the tree.
